Surgery Update

For everyone that lifted up prayers on my behalf and my spouse's, they were obviously heard. He is doing very well. He came though surgery much better than the last last time. The physical terrorist has already paid him a visit this morning and had him walking the halls. He should be home on Thursday if things continue to go well. Thank you!

Another new knee

Well, the day has come. Hubby gets his last and final new knee today. Remember the first one? I'm a little anxious as he's not the easiest patient....that's putting it nicely. So today I request you take a moment and remember both of us in prayer.

And don't forget to...

Your Civic Duty

Today when you sit down to work on your calendar for this week....

Don't forget to set aside some time to do your "Civic Duty"

Funny thing. I voted on Friday on my lunch break and when I returned to work (with my Taco Bueno bag in hand), a co-worker said something to the effect of "where have you been" and I stated "doing my Civic Duty" and he said "Going to Taco Bueno???" rather confused. Upon further investigation it appears the phrase is unknown among the "younger" crowd.

Yes, I went around the office asking people what "Your Civic Duty" meant!

And it was about half and half as far as the answer of voting... a few said "Jury duty?" And some said some incredibly funny things...things I can't repeat!
(I just realized all the signs are pointing left except the last one...that in no way is a reflection on my vote... )

I honestly didn't even scratch the surface on photos of the the "VOTE" signs. None of the pictures are duplicates and I didn't take pictures of all of them.
And here I was worried I wouldn't be able to figure out where to place my vote, locate the poll, find the place to do my civic duty!

There really was a steady stream of people going in to vote....great turn out. Makes you wonder if there will be anyone left after the early voting...

Here I am standing (well, you can't see me I'm the one taking the picture! Wish you could I'm really decked out in my red, white and blue with all the bells and whistles. A jacket with Uncle Sam on the back and a shirt with a big American flag on the front. Oh, and don't forget my sparkly red shoes! DON'T WORRY I'm kidding!) Did you notice the woman behind the table her mouth is wide open. (it's hard to see since the photo is small) You'd think that was T.O. in front of me...but it wasn't....at least I don't think it was.

Well, that's it folks. My vote has been cast for another four years. May the best man win. And my hope is that people are voting not to make history....though it's going to be made anyway you look at it. It also seems that this election has brought people to the polls that have never voted before or cared to vote. And that I suppose would be a good thing?!

It takes a village of monkeys

Once upon a time in a village in India , a man announced to the villagers that he would buy monkeys for $10.The villagers seeing there were many monkeys around, went out to the forest and started catching them.
The man bought thousands at $10, but, as the supply started to diminish, the villagers stopped their efforts. The man further announced that he would now buy at $20. This renewed the efforts of the villagers and they started catching monkeys again.Soon the supply diminished even further and people started going back to their farms. The offer rate increased to $25 and the supply of monkeys became so little that it was an effort to even see a monkey, let alone catch it! The man now announced that he would buy monkeys at $50! However, since he had to go to the city on some business, his assistant would now act as buyer, on his behalf. In the absence of the man, the assistant told the villagers: 'Look at all these monkeys in the big cage that the man has collected.
I will sell them to you at $35 and when he returns from the city, you can sell them back to him for $50.'The villagers squeezed together their savings and bought all the monkeys. Then they never saw the man or his assistant again, only monkeys everywhere! Welcome to WALL STREET.

Halloween

It's a week away! This is in Spanish but it doesn't really matter, you'll get the gist... this occurred just outside of a cementary. Have a great weekend!

Sincerely 'Fro Me to You

From "We are THAT Family" The purpose of Sincerely 'Fro Me to You (every Thursday) is to link up a post about something from your past. You can reach back all the way to your childhood and bravely post pictures of your 'fro or post something from last year and tell about it.
Today I'm picking on my first born... and no Conan O'Brien isn't his Dad! I'm almost certain this was the longest his hair ever was as these days he keeps it very short and always neat. (bragging to redeem myself for using this picture!) Well, better yet let me just post some recent pictures for his defense.

Here he is with his first born and did I mention he's a great Daddy too?

King for a day! Always a king in my book.

Rough and tough exterior, but a sweetheart on the inside.

Almost got that 80's hair going on here, but not quite.

This is one of his prouder moments...bringing home dinner for the winter.

And couldn't finish off the Fro Day without DD's cat with a Fro!

Bruce Woodard

Woodard, Bruce Wayne Passed away on October 14, 2008 in McKinney, Texas. Bruce was a fun loving, nice person who loved his family, Baylor University, Baylor football. He made people laugh, and was great with one- liners. He was an avid golfer who achieved 2 holes-in-one. Bruce was an ethical business owner, and truly believed and lived the golden rule. He is preceded in death by his parents Cleo and Lanelle Woodard. Bruce is survived by his wife of 40 years, Dorothy Woodard of Fairview; son Bob Woodard and Nicole of Waco; daughter, Carly vanBeek and Phil of Allen; sister, Cynthia Perry of Waco; and grandchildren, Kade Woodard, Korbyn Woodard, Arden vanBeek and Joseph vanBeek. A Memorial Service will be held honoring Bruce on Friday, October 17, 2008 from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. at the Heritage Ranch Clubhouse, 465 Scenic Ranch Circle, Fairview, Texas 75069. Memorials may be made to: UT Southwestern Medical Center with notation: "Dr. Weiner's Alzheimer's Research", 5323 Harry Hines Blvd., Dallas, Texas 75390- 9129 (214) 648-9343.

A week ago my former employer passed away. Bruce was such a special person. He was a great storyteller and fantastic person to work with, generous to a fault and all around good person. He left this world way too early. He will be greatly missed. His family and friends held a memorial service last Friday and it was standing room only. Many great stories were told of Bruce and his wonderful life. About a year after I worked for him he was diagnosed with Alzheimer's, but what took him was a bout with pneumonia.
Bruce you will be missed beyond measure.....
God bless you and your fine family.

My kids way back when...

Found a great website awhile back just look what it can do....

Hope everyone gets a good laugh out of this, because I know I did.

You can choose from 1950 up until 2000. Pretty cool!

(for some reason my favorite son-in-law is fading on me)
And if you run out of kids to funk up their pictures you can always turn to their pets...

Diamond Luster

What a wonderful, wonderful treat we had Thursday evening to attend the Neil Diamond concert when he was in town at the American Airlines Center.

Although the concert was at 8 and he didn't come on stage until almost 8:30, he put on an amazing show. Notice all the "white hairs" (and yes, I'm married to one!) in the crowd? There was a wide range of ages present I guess due to the fact that he's been making the music for almost 4 decades. Don't you just love the guy in the white hat....maybe he thought the Beach Boys were in town?
I gave up my Bunko night with the girls for this and nothing against fun with the girls, but I really had a great time at the concert. That is until the usherette tried to confiscate my camera....but I prevailed.

One of his newest songs is "Pretty Amazing Grace"
His band was quite large and also very good. For a New York singer or Jewish Elvis as he's sometimes called, nearly half of his band originated in Texas....Tyler, Beaumont, Dallas and other cities in the deep south.

Here's some Diamond trivia....Who is the song "Sweet Caroline" written about? give up?

Caroline Kennedy! And she didn't know it until he was asked to her 50th birthday celebration where he revealed that information to her. Isn't that neat?
He's also a very charitable guy. All the proceeds of merchandise from his concert are being matched by himself and the band and the funds will go to build 300 homes on Hope Island (near Galveston) that were lost in Hurricane Ike. His goal is to have those 300 families out of the government tents and in new homes by Christmas. So not only is he a great singer he's also a good person (unlike us who didn't purchase anything but our tickets).....and that's always nice (the part that he's a good person).
