Our latest past time...

Our city's Athletic Center...

is where you will find us nearly every afternoon during the week.

It's a great place to cool off and get a little water exercise.

This is a fun contraption in the kiddie area.

The buckets fill up and dump when they get full.

There's also this fun "mushroom" fountain, which you can stand under...

A big slide that I am going to attempt one day...

A life size water tower that over flows...

And of course our favorite the lazy river... (Skippy is right there in the middle)

Here he is vigorously exercising his legs....

And me? Well, I'm contemplating the need of a pedicure...

Tomato Pie

It's that time of year....fresh homegrown tomatoes!!
And here's a great recipe to use them....
I didn't think about blogging this until I was almost done so there is no "cast of characters" and the recipe is completely blurry, but here we go...

Underneath all this lushness lies a bed of mozzarella cheese...
3/4 of a pound!!
Not 3/4 of a cup...

On top of a prebaked pie crust, the on top of the cheese is layered tomatoes, green onions, bacon pieces and herbs. Pop it in the oven and bake. Makes a really yummy lunch with a big glass of iced tea....

Tractor Square Dance....

Now the truth is out....I am a redneck. I got the biggest kick out of this video. What talent and skill this takes and it's so darn entertaining! Well at least to me.

Have a great week!!

My New Dishwasher!

(No, not Heather!)

It was another one of those evenings. An evening of celebration. Of daughter-in-law Heather's birthday. And of course Gerad & Heather brought over our granddog Zoey.

And like the true lady that she is she pitched in and did her part....

More computer humor

A SPANISH Teacher was explaining to her class that in Spanish, unlike English, nouns are designated as either masculine or feminine.

'House' for instance, is feminine: 'la casa.'

'Pencil,' however, is masculine: 'el lapiz.'

A student asked, 'What gender is 'computer'?'

Instead of giving the answer, the teacher split the class into two groups, male and female, and asked them to decide for themselves whether computer' should be a masculine or a feminine noun.

Each group was asked to give four reasons for its recommendation.

The men's group decided that 'computer' should definitely be of the feminine gender ('la computadora'), because:

1. No one but their creator understands their internal logic;

2. The native language they use to communicate with other computers is incomprehensible to everyone else;

3. Even the smallest mistakes are stored in long term memory for possible later retrieval; and

4. As soon as you make a commitment to one, you find yourself spending half your paycheck on accessories for it.

The women's group, however, concluded that computers should be Masculine because:

1. In order to do anything with them, you have to turn them on;

2. They have a lot of data but still can't think for themselves;

3. They are supposed to help you solve problems, but half the time they ARE the problem; and

4. As soon as you commit to one, you realize that if you had waited a little longer, you could have gotten a better model.

The women won!!

Keepin' the kitchen cool...

The largest window in our kitchen faces the west...which means in the summer afternoons it gets quite hot near this window.

Well, this year I tried something different...I planted some morning glories outside this window, strung some twine from the top of the window to the ground and the rest is a nice window treatment made of morning glories.

Here's the view from the inside of the just LOOKS cool and does actually make a difference. I saw one bloom several weeks ago, but none since...these were suppose to be annuals but they come back every year, but this is the first year I haven't had plants full of blooms. They've even been doctored with Miracle Grow and Super Bloom and still a big fat nothing in regards to blooms. Oh well, they do provide a cool shade!

So now here's where I went over the top of making it a redneck project....

I had tallest son (6ft 4 to be exact) cover the sky light in the kitchen with tin (if you're real country!) or aluminum (if you're city slick)foil the last time he made a visit.
WOW, what a difference shading the sources of the sun makes!

The Simple Woman's Daybook Monday July 13, 2009

For Today...

Outside my window... the beginnings of another hot day :(

I am thankful for... air conditioning!

From the kitchen... squash & bbq pork roast...yum!

I am wearing... the same outfit I wore to church slacks and pink & black sheerish top...with new pink and silver necklace & earrings from Charming Charlies!

I am reading... Whatever my precious daughter tells me I need to be reading (ha, ha, ha!). The 3rd (?) in Adriana Trigiani's series "Home to Big Stone Gap"

I am hoping... for cooler weather?

I am creating... lots of things in my mind...just can't seem to put them in action.

I am praying... thankfulness for hubby's speedy recovery.

Around the house... little piles... here, there, and everywhere!

One of my favorite things... the laughter from my family.

A few plans for the rest of the week... shopping for just the right birthday gift for DIL, joining the local rec center and GOING EVERY day, Bunko, allergy shots & hair removal (TMA!!).

Here is a picture thought I am sharing with you...

Roxy gets a bath yesterday and it tuckered her out!

P.S. And she had nothing to do with the "Around the house" statement....

I seem to have a run on food blogs these days.....this is from the past holiday on the 4th.

Nice little burger sliders (you can order your own slider maker from Billy Mays <RIP> here).

Or NOT?? Look closer. These are cupcakes! For real! I got the idea from Bakerella and hers are much better than mine.

For the step by step instructions you can check her site out. The only difference in hers and mine was the "lettuce". She used green icing and I tinted coconut green and used it for the "lettuce".

Well, maybe there was more than ONE kitchen afterwards?! Oh, and she served fries with hers....maybe next time...

Computer troubles

I was having trouble with my computer. So I called my favorite son-in-law, and asked him to come over.

He clicked a couple of buttons and solved the problem.

As he was walking away, I called after him, 'So, what was wrong?

He replied, 'It was an ID ten T error.'

I didn't want to appear stupid, but nonetheless inquired, 'An, ID Ten T error? What's that?
In case I need to fix it again.'

He grinned. 'Haven't you ever heard of an ID ten T error Before?'

'No,' I replied.

'Write it down,' he said, 'and I think you'll figure it Out.'

So I wrote down:
I D 1 0 T

I used to like the little brat.

Late night project gone south...

Due to a loooonnnnnnggggg evening nap, we (Skippy {hubby} & I) ventured into a project last night after MIDNIGHT.... This was the end result and thus the answer to last night's question. "What it is??"

Did you guess strawberry jam??

Well that is what it was... We had somewhat of a run away porridge experience with it as when it began to boil it began to LEAP out of the pan.

Oh, what a delicious mess~~~

What it is??

Details at 10....

A man climbs to the top of Mt. Sinai to get close enough to talk to God.

Looking up, he asks the Lord, “God, what does a million years mean to you?”

The Lord replies, “A minute.”

The man asks, “And what does a million dollars mean to you?”

The Lord replies, “A penny.”

The man asks, “Can I have a penny?”

The Lord replies, “In a minute.”
