Upcycling?

True Redneck Tube Top!!!! This was taken in front of the Gardendale, Alabama, Wal-Mart, where the young lady was shopping at the Flea market. This is hysterical! Look at it closely...

Now I ask you.....
Who stands and looks at a pair of men's briefs and says hummmm...I can make me a nice summer top from these!! On the other hand....$6 for a three pack is a good price!! But what if they weren't bought new? That's redneck recycling at its best.
Don't throw out yer feller's drawers when the skidmarks don't wash out no more.
Just cut the crotch out and wear'em. How very Green! Al Gore would be proud.

Like mother like daughter

Following the footsteps of my daughter (actually I did this first, but didn't complete it until recently) I pulled this chair out of someone's trash and refurbished it. Husband cut a new seat and I touched up the paint with a hit of black spray paint.

Added a healthy dose of batting for padding.

Pulled a scrap of fabric I have had for a while. Switched to a more powerful staple gun (per husband's advice) and went wild with the staples.

This is a simple, simple project and very low cost. You just have to be sure to secure the fabric tightly and you've got it made.

Here's the seat completed. Then commission (although I could have done this) husband to find a long screw to attach the seat to the chair frame.

A new chair for next to nothing!

Garage Sale Saturday

I made a vow (given my long list of things to do in 10 days list) to not attend, search out or go to any Garage Sales in the next few weeks. But here are some from weeks past.

It all started out innocent enough....I was going to drop off some of our junk at the local resale shop.

We seem to have an abundance of hospital drinking glasses...go figure!


Here are some things I stumbled upon...

Gonna spray paint that little pillar black and not sure about the frame...the tray or pan they are sitting on is going to become a mirrored mosaic.


I love these face wall sconces..should they remain the same or be painted??

Also some vintage dishes that will be worked into a mosaic birdhouse (stay tuned) and the "J" shaving mug goes to MFSIL for his toothbrushes...

I have a little collection of small interesting boxes and I picked up these two for 50 cents. The one I am holding has "Made in Italy" on the back and a handwritten price tag .

This is an old stamp holder for those rubberstamps that required a ink stamp pad....Only a DOLLAR!

This is a box of 3 tiered Christmas trees brand new in the box (regular price $39.99) I snagged for a mere $9

A wooden plate?

A travel size scrabble game with tiny little scrabble pieces...probably going to use these pieces in a creative way of some sort....

This past weekend DD and I went cross country (or maybe I should say cross cities) stopping in at random sales between Granddaughter's morning soccer game and making our way back home (about a 20 mile stretch). We found some bargains but not what we were in search of....she was looking for a desk and no one seemed to be selling them, but we found one at "the local resale store" this past Tuesday....I think her plans this weekend involved painting that desk.

Hope everyone is having a thrifty weekend...I'm keeping blinders on and only sticking to my list!

The Pink Shelf

At least a year ago, and maybe even longer ago than that...a couple of girls that I work with and I were at the local resale store. One of them bought this pink shelf and ask me to paint it a lighter shade of pink. Well, she completely forgot about it and I completely took liberty with it, by covering it in broken glass, beads and other adornments.



I just wish I had taken a picture before I covered it, but I didn't...so imagine it without all this pink stuff glued to it.

I filled it in with a white grout and then sealed it.

I'm quite proud of how it came out. I think my co-worker liked it too, I just hope it didn't pull the sheetrock off the wall when she hung it.

I Love RE-Sale!!! Friday Fav!

Have I told you before that I love the Re-Sale Shop??? Well, I do and this is why....

I got this whole bag of fabric for $1.99. Some pieces are more than a yard!

Such a deal and just what I needed for the latest project I'm working on...

This is the fabric out of the bag that I chose to use for my idea.

Anyone that's eaten with me knows that I invariably get some of my meal on the front of whatever I'm wearing. So my project involves covering those stains that won't come out.

Hubby cut the Peace sign out for me and I stitched it over some small stains that were on this shirt and viola~

New threads!

I haven't worn it yet, but it does look a lot better than it did with the stains showing as they were before.

Here's another shirt I covered stains with iron-on jeweled birdies.

And here's a set of sweet little birds I picked up at the Re-sale shop for $3. They are cast iron and really cute. Just can't beat a good deal at the Re-sale shop!

I don't know you but I have something of yours or something that use to belong to you... I purchased it some time ago at the local resale store in town. Maybe you dropped the hobby and decided to take up something else?

Do your remember? Your Brunswick Black Diamond Bowling Ball? Well it's changed....

With a couple of tubes of this...

And lots of fresh chopped tomatoes...



I'M KIDDING!!!!!!

Look closer and you will see that this is red stained glass....yep! your bowling ball involves stained glass.

And a bunch of these blue strips of painters tape (yeah, you remember I used these to hold down the lizard legs in a previous blog!). Note: bullet holes in the cabinet they are stuck to? This cabinet was an old mail sorting cabinet that was dumped at the farm and evidently someone used it for target practice. I painted it and use it now to hold a lot different things.

Anyway Diane, back to your bowling ball... This picture looks like I've glued cheese slices to your ball. But, fear not again it's stained glass and your old bowling ball is progressing....

It is still not complete but all it lacks is it's grout. My dilemma is what color of grout to use on your bowling ball, Diane.

So viewers, I solicit your help...should it be black, white, terra cotta, gray? Whattaya think???

And finally, Diane...Thank you sincerely for your donation to the Local Resale Store. They earned a whole two dollars and ninety nine cents (plus tax) for your contribution and I have my second gazing ball. :)



ANYONE KNOW WHY THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH SPACING??? I'm about ready to pull my hair out trying to get this blog to look right....

Trash to Treasure

This was a Thrift store find for a whole solid dollar that I got and spray painted black to transform it into this lovely....
Topped it with a few silk leaves and a small (FAKE) poopie pumpkin....
and surrounded it with a larger poopie pumpkin and a little white FAKE pumpkin.....
Scattered a few silk fall leaves a little wooden duck and a candle and WAA LAAA a centerpiece for the kitchen table! I can see all kinds of ideas to do with this for the holidays! Joy, joy, happy, happy dance.
